WB 105 Freeway Reopens in Hawthorne

Westbound lanes of the 105 Freeway in Hawthorne reopened Tuesday afternoon after police activity forced a closure, causing delays for drivers heading to Los Angeles International Airport.

The closure took place about 10:45 a.m. at Prairie Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. Traffic was diverted at Crenshaw Boulevard.

Aerial images showed westbound traffic backed up for miles. Eastbound lanes were unaffected.

The flow of traffic was expected to remain slow even after the westbound side reopened. Drivers heading to LAX were advised by airport officials to exit at Crenshaw Boulevard, make a right, then make a left on Imperial Highway or Century Boulevard.
