The first human case of West Nile Virus this year in Long Beach has been confirmed, the city's health officer said Friday.
Prior to the discovery of the West Nile case, Long Beach had documented two positive West Nile mosquito samples, Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis said.
There is no vaccine or specific treatment for West Nile Virus. Residents are urged to take precautions during warm temperatures by using DEET as an insect repellent, avoiding exposure at dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes bite, and eliminating all sources of standing water.
