Woman Accidentally Fatally Shot During Police Academy Drill Inspires Young Readers

A 73-year-old Florida woman who was accidentally shot and killed Tuesday during a police academy "shoot/don't shoot" drill is inspiring young readers in her community.

Mary Knowlton was attending citizen police academy training in an effort to support and understand the job of police officers better, reported WBBH.

Knowlton's life served as an inspiration to many people she met through her work as a librarian and volunteer in the community.

Her neighbors' son Maddox loved when she would bring him books, and he says she always knew which ones he would like.

Her love for reading inspired Maddox to build a "My Free Library" for the community, and he plans to build a new one in her honor.
