Dozens of classic cars pull into the Farmers Market on Saturday, June 2.

Of the many things one can say about this world, here is a major truth: We are not wanting for car shows.

If something has a fender on either end -- or even if it doesn't -- there's probably a day devoted to it somewhere. But some car shows are stand-outs, and some are stand-outs for multiple reasons. The Gilmore Heritage Auto Show, which is set to roll again on Saturday, June 2, is such a stand-out among stand-outs.

Here's why: The corner it happens on -- it's called Third & Fairfax, so you may have heard of it -- has a long and fascinating automotive history. Not only did the Gilmore family, the family that owned the land where the Original Farmers Market now sits, find oil on that corner, but they are said to be the people behind the first self-serve gas station. Perhaps you've seen that sweet vintage gas station at on the north side of the market? There's history there.

Oh, another stand-out reason? The Gilmore Heritage Auto Show is completely free.

What you'll see at the completely free show: Dozens of classic cars of every stripe and wheel, plus the featured car this year, the Pontiac GTO. Expect to see several GTOs lining the area between Farmers Market and The Grove.

We love this show for its free-ness and the fact that it takes place on a corner with such a rich automotive history. And we also like it because it always happens the first Saturday in June, when many a mind turns to thinking about cool cars and cruising the PCH and the road trip pleasures of summer.

Thanks again, Farmers Market. We'll see you there! Toot toot beep beep.
