Preps for The Tournament of Roses Parade are underway, but downed trees and power lines are making things more difficult for crews and Pasadena is racing the clock for its big annual party.
Volunteers are working on a dozen floats, but this year's hurricane-force winds strafed the foothills and created a new challenge for these organic beauties.
"When we moved some of the floats into this facility a couple of weeks ago there were some issues with trees down in the Pasadena area," said Mark Paulson, of the Phoenix Decorating Company. "But the city's been great in trying to clear the route and make sure we had clean access to the facility."
Crews are clearing trees on parade adjacent streets.
"They may see some two-foot stumps along the route, trees that have been removed before they got here," said Kenneth Graham, Pasadena Forestry Superintendent. "But for the most part, it'll be nice and clean by the time they get here."
