Weekend: Los Angeles Food & Wine

Celebrity chefs and tasty events rule downtown.

LOS ANGELES FOOD AND WINE: Look for loads of high-profile eat-focused events that are also about the famous names behind the plates. We love the easy round-up of events at the main site, and we like events with names like California Clambake with Tom Colicchio and The Magic & Seduction of Cheese. Yes, please. LA Live's the main hub. Thursday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 16

AIDS WALK LOS ANGELES: There's still time to participate, so even if you're not on a team and even if you don't have a cool t-shirt at the ready, no worries. It's all happening in West Hollywood. Can't make it? Get info on donating. Sunday, Oct. 16

FARMERS MARKET FALL FESTIVAL: It's been in the heart of the city for over three quarters of a century, making it LA's oldest continuous fall festival. Bonus? It's free. Bonus? Hay barrels to pose for pictures on. Bonus? Kidly crafts and animals to pet. Bonus? You can hit the Grove for a movie afterwards. Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16

GHOST SHIP: We've got trains on the watch for the Headless Horseman. We've got hayrides that go into the deepest recesses of the old zoo. And now there's a ship that'll leave Newport Beach over six atmospheric October nights. What's on board? Something a bit ghoulish and something a bit scary and something to get Halloween going. Starts Friday, Oct. 14; every Friday and Saturday night through Oct. 29

"POLTERGEIST": It's just one of those quintessential California suburban horror flicks. Anything that came after, or will come after, must bow down. Don't bow too far, though; remember what was under the bed? Eeks. It's also Cinespia's last go-around at Hollywood Forever for this season. Saturday, Oct. 15
