You've heard the hype for months. No, for years. Perhaps, even decades. Downtown Los Angeles is in the middle of a renaissance, and you should move there.
No offense to downtown, but this isn't the first time we've been promised a thriving downtown LA full of nightlife and luxury condos and sports stadiums and neighborhoody goodness (see: 2010, 2005, 2002, 1996, 1988).
However this time, the downtown tale of redemption may actually be living up to the hype. For those skeptics still out there, this weekend is your chance to see it for yourself.
On Saturday, prospective downtowners can take the Downtown LA Housing Bus Tour. The four-hour, no-charge adventure is a crash course in your new downtown lifestyle, according to downtownLA.com:
On this extensive, four-hour tour, you'll visit a sampling of six or seven residences - both for sale and for lease - among 75 existing residential properties, and many more under construction. We will also provide an introduction to Downtown's many neighborhoods, pointing out Downtown icons such as L.A. LIVE & the STAPLES Center, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels.
The tour is the work of the Downtown Center Business Improvement District, a group of property owners working to make downtown live up to those renaissance expectations.
The tour starts at 9 a.m. sharp and runs until 1 p.m., leaving you plenty of time to explore the rest of downtown that the tour may have overlooked.

The tour changes each time, so we can't say for certain what sights you'll actually see on Saturday. So to guarantee a fair shake of downtown, here are just a few must-visit locales:
Grand Central Market, Angels Flight, the Bradbury Building, Disney Hall, the library main branch, Bottega Louie, Chinatown, Wurstkuche, Pete's, the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels, the LA Gun Club, the entire Fashion District, Devil's Drive-In, Nickel Diner, any 213 bar, Pershing Square, LA Live, Spring St., Sushi Gen, pretty much all of Little Tokyo for that matter, the Mezz, Staples, the Varnish, Church and State bistro, Library Bar, Villains Tavern, the LA Flower Market, the Pantry, the Los Angeles Athletic Club, Corkbar, MOCA, the observation deck at City Hall, the Falls, the Ahmanson Theatre, the San Antonio Winery, the Orpheum, and of course, LA Café (get the chicken pesto panini).
