Weekend: Rom Com Fest Loves-up Downtown

Do you feel the heart flutters? Make for the Downtown Independent for this sweetheart of a celebration.

Rom Com Fest: Love, or rather the prelude to love, is a fairly challenging thing to capture in a fictional film, and yet a host of iconic movies have done just that, turning out hundreds of meet-cute moments, flirtatious path-crossings, and more than a few "I do's" along the way. If this genre is your joyful jam, best find your in-love-with-love besties and make for the Downtown Independent Theater from June 20-23 for a host of classic works, modern favorites, and recent gems. Special guests, including actors and writers, are on the schedule, as is an array of colorful treats from the Dessert Goals team. Tickets? No need to cross paths with a cute stranger; they're right here.

Happy Yoga Day: How to start off summertime? A lot of people will be in tree pose on June 21, the first day of summer, at various yoga-focused celebrations around Southern California. If you'd like to attend a session that will raise money for a great cause, make your way to Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, where yoga and meditation classes will flourish throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 2 o'clock. The beneficiary? All donations go to the non-profit Give Back Yoga, an organization that "... shares yoga and meditation with veterans, cancer survivors, prisoners, and those overcoming addiction or eating disorders." Find more on the fundraiser here.

Guide Dogs of American Open House: Ever wondered what goes into the training of a guide dog, as the pup prepares to help a human in a host of ways? You can find out, in Sylmar, at this informative free event, which includes demonstrations and campus tours. The activity-filled gathering spotlights an organization that "empowers people who are blind or visually impaired to live with increased independence, confidence, and mobility by providing expertly matched guide dog partners." Learn more about this wonderful place, and the wonderful woofers trained there, on June 22.

Eat Drink Vegan: Brookside at the Rose Bowl is a spacious, capacious, and lovely-acious place to lap up all sorts of amazing foodstuffs. But if those foodstuffs were solely plant-based, and vegan in theme, and included tacos and gooey confections and everything you dream of eating? It's no dream. It's all flowering with deliciousness on Saturday, June 22 at the landmark stadium. One thirst-quenching asterisk? "Unlimited pours of 250+ beverages," including kombucha, beer, tea, and more, is one of the happy headlines of this happy and well-attended happening.

Honey Harvest Festival: You drizzle it, add it to barbecue sauces, heap it on top of ice cream, and add it to hot tea. But are you completely up on how honey comes to be, besides that bees are involved? Flap your wings and head directly to Fillmore as Bennett's Honey Farm helms this educational to-do, one that is filled with tours, bee-focused fun, Citrus Packing House tours, and the Honey Bee Express. That's a ticketed outing, but entry to the festival itself? It's as free as a bee. Find out all of the fun-tastic haps at this Central Park party, which comes a-hive, we mean alive, on Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23.
