Come December, one finds there are suddenly many ways to welcome the holidays, and places to reflect on what the season means. But a coming-together for the nightly lighting of an impressively large and lovely menorah -- think upwards of 20-feet tall in some cases -- is an especially festive and meaningful to-do. There are several spots to celebrate Hanukkah, which begins in 2010 on Wednesday, Dec. 1.
The large menorah on the southwest corner of Pershing Square will be the place to gather at sundown on Dec. 1 (and every night of Hanukkah). Universal CityWalk will also celebrate the beginning of Hanukkah on Dec. 1 at its CityRockin' Holidays; Lipa Schmeltzer, Pardes Jewish Rock, and Lenny Solomon are set to perform.
Hollywood & Highland will once again put its famous (and much photographed) ice menorah on display on Tuesday, Dec. 7 (there will also be family activities and treats, too, at the free public get-together). Watch for info on the evening here.
And a bevy of weekend events will be happening at Farmers Market, Santa Monica Place, and the Skirball Cultural Center, which is hosting a "Down Home Hanukkah" complete with quilting and woodworking and several other kid-nice happenings.
