The fight to overturn a ban on gay marriage in California will be televised.

With a judge barring video from the trial to overturn Proposition 8 earlier this year, "Milk" screenwriter Dustin Lance Black has written a new play about the trial, which will star some of Hollywood's biggest names and YouTube will broadcast the play live online.

George Clooney will play the role of attorney David Boies, who fought to overturn the controversial voter-approved measure that banned gay marriage in California.

Martin Sheen will play the role of Ted Olson, who argued with Boies to overturn the proposition.

The two actors will read selections from the 2010 trial discussing the constitutionality of the proposition.

Google posted a message from the director of the play Rob Reiner on its blog Thursday announcing that it would broadcast the show on YouTube.

"At the time of the trial, the Supreme Court ruled against allowing cameras in the courtroom, preventing anyone outside the court from witnessing the proceedings," Reiner wrote on the blog. "Today, we’re able to give people around the world a look at what happened behind closed doors via the live stream of this reading of 8 on AFER’s YouTube channel."

Clooney and Sheen will be joined by an all-star cast of actos, which includes Jaime Lee Curtis, Matt Bomer, Christine Lahti, Jane Lynch, Rob Reiner, George Takei and others.

The play will be shown March 3 at the Willshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles or on YouTube.
