Sip and Give Back: It's Negroni Week

Enjoy the classy cocktail at certain spots around town and help a local org.

It seems like just about every cocktail maven has her or his special sip, be it a martini or Manhattan or sidecar.

Hearing that someone always orders a Negroni, though, when visiting a bar, is something rare and wonderful, indeed. It's an aperitif that's about a century old, flush with red vermouth -- not the most common of beverage additions, nowadays -- and tangy with gin. And would we forget Campari's all-important cameo in this hallowed concoction?

No, we most certainly would not.

If you're drinking Negronis on the regular, one imagines you also regularly rock velvet blazers, listen to electro-classical, and are the coolest person in the room (regardless of what room you happen to occupy at the time).

And you likely know all about Negroni Week. It's on in 2014 from Monday, June 2 through Sunday, June 8, at participating establishments both in Southern California and further afield. Yep, Negroni Week is very much about enjoying the stylish sip, but it is also about giving back to great organizations.

Meaning this: Order a Negroni from a select bar or restaurant and watch part of the proceeds go to a nearby charity.

Examples, you ask? Okay. The Eveleigh is supporting those lit-loving kind-hearters at 826LA during Negroni Week, so that's way, way nice. And Heal the Bay is Cinco's chosen charity. Roxanne's of Long Beach is giving back to Food Finders.
