1 Woman Dies, 1 Suffers Serious Injuries in Van Nuys Crash

A car crash in Van Nuys Friday left one woman dead and another with serious injuries and facing a possible DUI charge, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 3:50 a.m. at Victory and Van Nuys boulevards, said Det. Bill Bustos of the Los Angeles Police Department.

A woman suspected of having been drunk was driving southbound on Van Nuys in a white Volkswagen when she ran a red light and collided with a white Nissan going eastbound on Victory Boulevard, Bustos said.

A third car, a Honda Accord, was also hit as the two other vehicles spun out.

A woman, who was 20 to 25 years old, was in one of the other vehicles which revieved the bulk of the impact. Paramedics performed emergency care but she was prounounced dead in an ambulance.

The suspected drunken driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. It was not immediately clear if she had been officially booked for DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

The names of the two women were not immediately released.
