‘He Was My Rock': Wife Mourns Husband as Arrest Made in Stray Bullet Murder

For Betty Capotosto, the death of her husband of four years still hasn't sunk in.

"He did everything for my family," she said. "He was my rock."

In August, 71-year-old Ron Capotosto was driving home from a pool supply store when he was struck by gunfire near Moraga and Linares avenues, right in front of the Jurupa Hills Country Club in Riverside.

A person in a dark sedan began shooting at someone else and Ron was shot -- but he was not the intended targets, investigators said.

The intended target was also shot, but survived.

"Why would they fire at an innocent person?" Betty said. "Why would their target hide behind an innocent person's car to use him as a shield?"

Surveillance video from a nearby resident showed the possibly suspected vehicle fleeing the area.

Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced Thursday that they arrested 19-year-old Raymond Fajardo, a gang member who allegedly had a high capacity magazine in his possession, and faces charges of murder and attempted murder.

"We believe strongly that he was involved," said Captain Jason Horton. "What his role is will come out of a later time."

Investigators are still trying to identify who else was in the car.

"This loss is just so traumatic to our family because we have such a large family, and he was so good with everybody," Betty said. "Love everybody as much as you can because tomorrow isn't promised."
