Capping Violent Weekend in the City, Man Killed Sunday Night in Pomona, Police Say

A 38-year-old man was shot to death in Pomona, police said.

The shooting was reported about 8:30 p.m. Sunday outside an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Las Vegas Avenue, said Pomona police Sgt. Patrick O'Malley.

Pomona police responded to several calls of shots heard, then a caller advised there was a shooting victim, O'Malley said.

"Responding officers located the victim near the sidewalk of the location," he said. The victim died in an ambulance en route to a hospital.

Police identified the victim as 38-year-old Tory Alexander Lawton of Pomona.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was hanging out in the carports of the indicated apartment complex. An unknown suspect [or suspects] shot the victim numerous times and fled the location," O'Malley said.

The motive for the shooting is unknown, he said.
