A child was killed and a man and another child were hurt when a sedan wrapped around a light pole in a Wilmington crash Monday.

The crash was reported at 11:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Quay Street, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

"You could tell be screech of the tires someone was trying to regain control," said Marc Heinzman who works nearby. "Then a loud boom, and it felt like it shook the building. I looked out the window and all you could see was white Lexus wrapped around the railroad sign."

A white Lexus was traveling on Harry Bridges Boulevard as the street curved and turned into Alameda. As the car drove across railroad tracks, witnesses said the driver lost control and slammed into a light pole.

"People race through here. If you don’t know where [the pot holes] are at, you can easily lose control," Rick Simpson said.

The boy, believed to be 10 years old, was killed in the crash, while a man and another boy, estimated to be 6 to 8 years old, were taken to the hospital.

It wasn't clear what caused the crash. Witnesses said they saw the car speeding, but the Los Angeles Police Department wouldn't say whether speed was a factor.
