Duped Man Part of Credit Card Fraud Probe

A credit card fraud investigation in the Inland Empire is focusing on online companies, including one based in Riverside County that sells vitamin supplements, according to sheriff's investigators.

A Jurupa Valley man who was hired through an online job search was apparently duped into being part of the alleged fraud, investigators said.

That man was located after $2,000 worth of supplements were shipped to his home.

He'd been hired to receive merchandise from various companies and re-ship it and he was unaware of any fraud, investigators said.

The man reportedly told sheriff's deputies that he'd received other merchandise at his home, including laptop computers and smart phones.

Deputies are warning that anyone who seeks work through an online job search should be cautious.

They're estimating that the value of the merchandise fraudulently purchased in the current case totals more than $20,000.
