    Two people were arrested in connection with a shooting that wounded a Fullerton police officer during a traffic stop. Tena Ezzeddine reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2013.

    A man and a woman were arrested in connection with a shooting that wounded a Fullerton police officer whose body armor likely saved his life during a traffic stop early Sunday.

    Sjanee Duhart, 27, of Riverside, and Marcos Bush, 29, of Santa Ana, were in custody in connection with the shooting that happened at Woods and Knepp avenues in Fullerton after midnight, police said.

    Police said Bush is an active member of a street gang and has a lengthy criminal record, which includes arrests for aggravated assaut, carjacking and robbery.

    He was being held on a charge of attempted murder of an officer. Duhart was being held on a charge of being an accessory, police said.

    The seven-year veteran of the Fullerton Police Department was hit in the chest multiple times. He was taken to a hospital where he was expected to survive.

    Police said that Bush, who was driving the car, pulled a gun during a traffic stop. It was unknown why the officer pulled them over.

    The officer fired back but it was not clear whether the suspects were hit.

    Police issued a statewide bulletin alerting other agencies of the shooting and to be on the lookout for a a maroon-colored Pontiac sedan. Police found the car in Riverside more than an hour after the shooting.

    They were led a home in Anaheim where they found Bush, police said.

    Once there, police tried to make contact with him, but he took off running, police said.

    At one point, he reached into his waistband and tossed a pistol, police said.

    After a short chase, police arrested him and found the gun, police said.

    Police are conducting forensics tests to determine if the gun was the same weapon used in the shooting.
