"Mad Men's" Emmy-nominated writer-producer Tom Smuts peddled his bicycle about 16 miles to the awards show Monday.
Smuts, accompanied by a small group of cyclists, rode his bike in a jacket and tie from his home in Santa Monica to the 66th Primetime Emmys at L.A. Live's Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. He hoped the hour-and-a-half journey would help him avoid rush-hour traffic and raise awareness for the Los Angeles County Bike Coalition.
"I'm riding my bike to the Emmys to show that LA is a biking city - let's go!" he said in a video posted to Instagram.
His wife joined him - in a dress on a white bike - for the last leg of the trip.
When Smuts arrived, he carried his bicycle helmet onto the red carpet.
The group used #CicLAEmmys and #Bike2Emmys on Instagram and Twitter to document the trip.
AMC's "Mad Men" was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series.
