Nighttime Closures Planned on Westbound 91 Freeway in Corona

The closure will be lifted at about 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The Riverside (91) Freeway will be partially shut down Tuesday night, as well as the following two nights, to accommodate crews working on an overpass.

The westbound 91 will be closed beginning about 11 p.m. at Lincoln Avenue, where contractors will remove temporary support beams originally installed for the new Lincoln Avenue bridge, which now has permanent emplacements, according to the Riverside County Transportation Commission.

During the closure, motorists will be detoured off the westbound 91 via Lincoln and immediately routed back to the freeway at the same location.

The closure will be lifted at about 4 a.m. Wednesday, said RCTC officials, who added that the roadwork will also necessitate closing a portion of Lincoln between Pomona Road and Second Street.

The same closures will be in effect during the same time frames on Wednesday and Thursday nights, according to the RCTC.

Real-time traffic information will be available during the closures at www.IE511.org.

The work is part the $1.3 billion "91 Project Fast Forward," which began in early 2014 and involves widening the east-west corridor between the Orange County line and Interstate 15, with new traffic lanes and ramps, as well as additional shoulder space and expanded surface streets in the vicinity of the freeway.

The project is slated for completion in the first half of next year.
