17-Year-Old Boy Wielding Gun Shot by Police in Ontario

A 17-year-old boy who police said was armed with a gun and pointing it at cars and people in Ontario, was killed by police, authorities said.

The incident occurred before 4 p.m. at South Archibald Avenue and East Riverside Drive, said Sgt. Jeff Higbee of Ontario Police Department.

Police said they were responding to radio calls about male waving a gun at people and pointing it at cars. The boy had allegedly robbed a Jack In The Box before he was located, police said.

Officers found the boy and a confrontation ensued, which ended with the suspect being shot by police. The boy was transported to a hospital where he died, police said.

The identity of the boy was not released because he is a minor.

Higbee said after the shooting, police discovered the boy left behind a suicide note at his home in Ontario.

Higbee said a skateboard was found and may have been the "getaway vehicle."

The officers involved in the shooting were placed on leave and were offered counseling.

No one was injured during the alleged robbery at the Jack In The Box.
