The search for an experienced hiker from Los Angeles County continued on Tuesday in the Mount Baldy area.
Michelle Yu, 49, went hiking on Saturday, apparently in preparation for an upcoming international hiking trip. Friends say she was a serious hiker, who even hiked with rocks in her pocket at times as a training aid. But she had a foot injury. And she may have encountered the worst of weather on Sunday night.
On Sunday, searchers found Yu's vehicle parked near Mount Baldy Road and Falls Road. And they noted that she signed a written log along a commonly used trail.
Friends said Yu is an experienced hiker, but normally does not go out for overnight excursions. And there's no indication that's what happened in this case.
Relatives say Yu knows the mountain well but they fear she may be hurt. And despite improving weather, that bad storm Sunday night remains a concern for rescue crews.
