Trader Joe's Tops List of Favorite Grocery Chains

Trader Joe's was chosen as shoppers' overall favorite grocery chain, while Ralphs was picked as having the most convenient locations, a survey says.

Trader Joe's is shoppers' favorite grocery store in North America, according to a new survey of more than 6,600 consumers.

Publix Super Markets and Whole Foods Market rounded out the top three in the study released Wednesday by Market Force Information, which sought to identify where consumers prefer to shop based on overall satisfaction and the likelihood of recommending a grocer.

When it comes to where shoppers spent the most money in the last 30 days, Safeway led the pack in the Western region.

The study also revealed what consumers like most about their preferred grocery store. Those factors were convenient location, low prices and good sales and promotions, in that order. Respondents were least concerned with sustainable environment and green polices, the study showed.

Ralphs topped the convenient location category, while Wal-Mart and Target tied for best place for one-stop shopping.

However, Wal-Mart was least likely to be recommended by guests and had the lowest satisfaction score.

The survey was conducted in May 2013 across the United States and Canada.
