Beer, sausage, and eggs for breakfast? It's part of the Wirtshaus celebration on Saturday, Dec. 7.
What beverage did you have this morning? We'll wager that a glass of cranberry juice or cup of coffee sat next to your cereal bowl, or maybe a carton of frosty milk.
A stein of beer, though, is not a sip normally seen near sunrise. But that's set to change, for a day, on Saturday, Dec. 7, when Wirtshaus, the German restaurant on La Brea near Beverly Boulevard, kicks off its holiday celebration weekend.
The breakfast to-do is called Keg & Eggs, so you probably won't need to grill your server too much about what you'll be eating, given that the spoiler alert is in the very name. An egg dish "however you like it," meaty traditional meatstuffs, fried potatoes, and German draft beer is what's up for the first meal of the day.
The heartiness of the brew, the heftiness of the sausage, and the protein-y pow of the eggs must meld well together, yes? Yes.
It's not as sybaritic as it might seem at first glance. Breakfast starts at the rather decent hour of 11 a.m. on Dec. 7, so lift your stein and sup upon your sausages without too much guilt.
And make plans to return on Sunday, Dec. 8 when Wirtshaus hosts a German-style Christmas market. Locally made stuff'll be sold, but so will German cookies, Christstollen, hand-concocted mustards, and that quintessential mulled deliciousness, Glühwein.
Oh yeah. You can sip on that and pretend you're staring at some castle-y scenic vista outside Munich. Plus, many of us gotta our glogg on at some point over the holidays, right?
(Purists, we know: Glühwein and glogg are relatives and not exactly one and the same. Be kind to our flight of fancy; it's the holidays.)
The Wirtshaus beer breakfast is $27. Oh, and the eatery is home to what it is billing as "The biggest Ginger Bread House in LA," so grab your Glühwein and give it the full once-over.
