Often times walking tours hit specific landmarks and spots, giving the history and background of this building or that door. Rarer is the chance to "experience guided wandering," but Being Pedestrian @ Habeas Lounge would like adventurers to do just that, in one of our city's oldest but newest neighborhoods.

A South Park Picnic, which is happening Saturday, March 12, will lead a leg-it around the downtown neighborhood that's now dominated by a lot of new construction (and a giant entertainment complex or two). There will indeed by picnicking -- participants are invited to arrive with blanket/food -- and there will be guided wandering about.

The idea of picnicking not far from LA Live charms.

The organizers are devoted to getting out and exploring our bustling byways and getting to know the people and places hedged up against them; the name "Being Pedestrian" says much. If you're in the mood to experience a ramble with more flow, as well as a traditionally bucolic activity in the heart of downtown's Grand Hope Park, meet at 9th and Hope at 2 p.m. on March 12.

A South Park Picnic is free to attend (but don't forget your picnic).
