Triple digit heat is expected in the Coachella Valley over the next three days, prompting the Riverside County Health Department to issue a heat warning and open "cool centers."

The county's cool centers provide snacks and water to residents.

Thursday's high is expected to be around 103 degrees with an overnight low of 71 degrees, said Stan Wasowski of the National Weather Service.

"It's definitely summertime," Wasowski said.

The Department of Public Health issues heat warnings when temperatures are forecast to reach 100 degrees for at least three consecutive days.

People with the symptoms of excessive heat such as headache, dizziness, weakness, muscle pains, nausea or vomiting should try to find a cool place and drink water to help prevent dehydration.

Children, pets, the elderly and disabled should not be left in vehicles during a heat emergency.

A complete list of cool center locations can be found at www.capriverside.org or by calling 888-636-8676.
