    Twilight on the Pier
Latin Wave, Middle East Beats, and other theme nights'll reign at the beloved summer-ender of a sound celebration. Be at Santa Monica Pier over six Wednesday nights, beginning on Aug. 21, 2019.

    What to Know

    • Wednesday nights, Aug. 21-Sept. 25

    • Santa Monica Pier

    • 7-10 p.m.

Summer-starting free stuff gets loads of love, and headlines, and you-gotta-do-thises, and why-aren't-you-there-yets, in terms of creating real buzz.

And yet summer enders, those farewell-to-fun-times that arrive in late August and September?

Yawn. Stretch. Summer's nearly done by then, and we're feeling back-to-school-y, and ready to plunge onward to fall.

And yet Twilight on the Pier easily defies this predictable pattern, for the 35-year-old series has consistently filled summer's swan song with songs aplenty, and fab performances, and all for free, too.

It is really solid, as major free things go, and it is totally popular, and it'll be back for six Wednesday evenings starting on Aug. 21, 2019.

These will be the last Hump Days of summer, a notion worth celebrating, while the last Wednesday of the series will pop up in the first week of autumn.

And hurrah: Santa Monica Pier revealed the themes of each night, and the line-ups, too, on Wednesday, June 26, all to shore up the event's Wednesday-wonderful vibe.

So what can fans expect on Aug. 21, and the five Wednesday nights that follow?

The theme of night #1 is Twilight Kick-Off, while Latin Wave, Middle East Beats, Island Tides, Aussie Splash, and Japanese Vibes will flow on from there.

Rostam, Helado Negro, A-Wa, Hollie Cook, Methyl Ethel, and Cornelius are just some of the acts set to take the stage over the course of Twilight on the Pier, but there'll be others awesome artists, too.

As well as other pleasures to capture our fancies, like food for purchase, art to enjoy, and comedy, too. As for the comedy stage? It's new, and names'll drop in July, say the pier people.

Oh yes, and serving as the cherry on this fun sundae, er, Wednesday? Those pier-perfect nights, right next to the Pacific, to cap it all off.

As if there's any other better place to send the summer season off, with gratitude and good grooves.

Again, this is free, free, so so free, so arriving early for the 7-10 p.m. shows is a rad idea, as rad ideas go.

Summer's start is getting attention, but let us honor summer's end, too, a mellow stretch that makes for ideal alfresco music-based hang-out-a-tude.
