The votes have been counted. The viewers have spoken in LA’s first ever Golden Local awards and Tito’s Tacos in Culver City has been crowned top taco titan. NBC4 presented Tito’s with Ary, Golden Local human trophy and spokesperson.
The Golden Locals were established to recognize local establishments of outstanding quality. Ary is the most prestigious trophy in existence. He's awarded by the people...and he's actually a person.
It was a tough battle between salsa sultans. Henry’s Tacos in North Hollywood went toe to toe with Tito’s. The debate was fierce. The opinions were strong. One viewer wrote “Tito's rocks!! I have been going there for more than 30 years.”
“It's the only place in LA to get good old-fashioned, stick-to-your-ribs-and-keep-you-warm-all-night Mexican food …Tito's Tacos is the best in L.A. hands down!” wrote others.
Henry’s fans struck back. “Henry's blows doors off Tito's! There is no comparison....” screamed one fan. “I've been going to Henry's since '78. Simply the best… I dream of buying Henry's one day just so I can keep them open on Sunday!” scribed another.
But in the end there could be only one chip champion and Tito’s took the title for tastiest taco. Their no-nonsense Mexican cuisine has been prepared daily from their humble stand since 1959. It’s packed with a diverse throng of devotees gobbling up favorites that include handmade tacos, generous burritos, and filling enchiladas slow cooked with a traditional South-of-the-Border style.
Congratulations Tito’s. Who will be the next Golden Local winner? Stay tuned.
