Man Arrested in Long Beach Sports Bar Shooting

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The Long Beach Police Department announced Tuesday the arrest of a man on suspicion of gunning down another man outside a sports bar in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach earlier this month.

Stanley Park, 36, of Long Beach, surrendered on Monday and was booked for murder in the death of Michael Martoni, also 36 and from Long Beach, who was shot about 2 a.m. Dec. 4 outside Yankee Doodles at 4100 E. Ocean Blvd., said Long Beach police Sgt. Dina Zapalski.

Park was being held in lieu of $1 million bail, according to the sheriff's department.

Park had been named as a suspect in crime, and police had sought public help to find him, Zapalski said.

According to a police statement, "Park and Martoni were involved in an argument outside the bar 30 minutes after the bar had closed." It was unclear if the pair knew one another before the argument, police said.

Martoni, gunned down outside the establishment's back entrance, died at the scene, Zapalski said.
