Meet the women and men behind NBCLA.com. You will be working closely with them during your internship.

Kelly Whitney

Kelly Whitney is the Director of Integrated Media. Prior to joining the digital team, she worked at the Los Angeles Daily News, where she covered breaking news, crime and courts. She was also a reporter with the San Fernando Valley Business Journal, covering commercial real estate and the biotech industry. She attended San Francisco State University, where she was editor-in-chief of the award-winning Golden Gate Xpress.

Jonathan Lloyd

Jonathan Lloyd is the Managing Editor of Digital News at NBC4 where he has been a member of the digital team since 2004. Before joining NBC4, he was a web editor at NBCConnecticut.com and a reporter for two Minnesota newspapers, Sun Newspapers and the Mankato Free Press.

Jason Kandel

Jason Kandel is a Digital News Producer for NBC4. He is an award-winning journalist who has covered news in Southern California for 19 years. He's been a reporter at Thomson Reuters, the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Daily News and the Long Beach Press-Telegram. He's been an online editor at dailynews.com and Southern California Public Radio. He's won Los Angeles Press Club awards for breaking news and online news projects, including for coverage of the 2009 Station Fire.

Heather Navarro

Heather Navarro is the Senior Digital News Producer at NBC4. She has a master’s degree in broadcast and digital journalism from USC. She’s worked as a freelance reporter covering hyper-local news in the South Bay for AOL’s Patch.com, and earned an insider’s view on content while working at an SEO company. She started at NBC4 as an intern for the digital team in 2013 before going on to intern with NBC Nightly News. She worked for NBC4’s Promotions department in a role she built from the ground up as a social media producer.

Whitney Irick

Whitney Ashton Irick is Social Media Lead and a Digital News Producer at NBC4 in Southern California. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. She is also a print, online and broadcast journalism graduate of Pepperdine University. Prior to working as a digital content producer, Whitney worked as a news associate at NBC4 and completed two digital news internships with the station’s web team. Whitney has previously served as president and online managing editor for Pepperdine's award-winning weekly student newspaper and website.

Elizabeth Campos

Elizabeth Campos is the overnight Digital News Producer for NBC4 and Telemundo 52 in Los Angeles. She graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a degree in journalism and a minor in political science. She was a reporter for The New York Times Student Journalism Institute in Summer 2018 and is an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She interned with KVEA and KNBC for two consecutive semesters before joining the digital team.
