Power Crunch: Crash Knocks Out Power in Venice

A motorist drove a truck onto a curb and hit a power pole in the Venice area Monday, snapping the top of the pole and leaving power lines dangling over Venice Boulevard, police said.

Venice Boulevard was closed to through traffic from Walgrove Avenue to Lincoln Boulevard as a Department of Water and Power crew worked to fix the downed lines, according to Los Angeles police Sgt. R. Pickering.

The power pole was still standing and there wasn't much damage to the truck, Pickering said. The driver was not injured.

The truck hit the pole in such a way that the top just "snapped off," leaving the lines hanging over the busy street, he said.

The street was expected to remain closed until about 3 p.m.
