San Marino resident Louise Deser Siskel was crowned Tuesday night as the 2019 Rose Queen.
Siskel was chosen as the 101st Rose Queen from among the seven-member Tournament of Roses Royal Court.
Siskel is a senior at Sequoyah High School in Pasadena where she is a member of the debate team and Judicial Committee.
Siskel is also involved in YMCA Youth and Government, does research in space biology that has been funded by NASA's Ames Research Center in Northern California and conducts breast cancer research at Charles Drew University in the unincorporated Willowbrook area.
Siskel said she plans to study cellular and molecular biology and would like to attend Johns Hopkins University, The University of Chicago or Tufts University.
Siskel and her six princess will attend dozens of community and media events leading up to the 130th Rose Parade and 105th Rose Bowl Game on New Year's Day.
The coronation ceremony was held at the Pasadena Playhouse.
Members of the Royal Court are chosen based on criteria including public speaking ability, academic achievement, youth leadership and community and school involvement.
The other members of the Royal Court are:
-- Lauren Michele Baydaline, a senior at Westridge School and resident of South Pasadena;
-- Ashley Symone Hackett, a senior at John Muir High School and a Pasadena resident;
-- Rucha S. Kadam, a senior at La Canada High School and a La Canada Flintridge resident;
-- Sherry Xiaorui Ma, a Temple City resident and a senior at San Marino High School;
-- Micaela Sue McElrath, a senior at Westridge School and a Pasadena resident; and
-- Helen Susan Rossi, a Flintridge Preparatory School senior and La Canada Flintridge resident.
