Brush Fire Grows Near Calimesa

A fire today just southwest of Calimesa quickly gobbled up 60 acres of brush and officials fear it has the potential to scorch hundreds more.

The fire at Redlands Boulevard, south of San Timoteo Canyon Road, was reported at 3:40 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find one acre burning in light-to-medium fuels at a moderate rate, with the potential to burn several hundred more, said Jody Hagemann, with Cal Fire.

By 5:15, the blaze had scorched 75 acres, with about 10 buildings in the area, though not immediately threatened. No evacuations were required, said Hagemann.

Redlands Boulevard was closed between Locust Avenue and San Timoteo Canyon Road until further notice, Hagemann said.
