Coach Arrested After Parents Discover Teen's Text Messages

A 32-year-old American Youth Soccer Organization coach has been arrested on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-girl on his team.

David McGregor, of Wildomar, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly having had sexual intercourse with a minor in her parents' Menifee home, Sgt. David Barton of the sheriff's Perris Station said. He was released later in the day on $25,000 bail.

The girl's parents contacted the Menifee Police Department on Saturday, when the mother discovered several inappropriate text messages in her daughter's cell phone between the girl and McGregor, Barton said. After talking to their daughter, the parents learned that the text messages had been sent for about six months, starting when the girl was 14 years old.

The relationship continued and eventually led to the coach coming to the family home at least once in mid-October, while the girl's parents were away, when "the coach and young girl engaged in sexual intercourse," Barton said.

An investigation led by Detective Glenn Johnson of the sheriff's Perris Station culminated with McGregor's arrest, Barton said.

According to the girl's parents, McGregor has coached their daughter's AYSO soccer team for three years, holding practices at the Bell Mountain Middle School in Menifee.

"At this time no information has been offered to suggest other victims exist," he said.

AYSO is a nonprofit organization that helps develop youth soccer programs throughout the nation.
