‘Kind, Gentle' Mother Found Stabbed to Death Inside Saugus Home

Her 24-year-old son, Jesse Lucatero, was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing after he was questioned by authorities

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of his 56-year-old mother, who was found dead inside her home Monday in Saugus, sheriff's homicide detectives said.

Jesse Lucatero, the woman's son, was booked on murder charges and is being held in lieu of a $2 million bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The stabbing was reported around 12:50 p.m. in the 19500 block of Castille Lane, according to sheriff's officials.

The woman lived at the home with her husband and one of the couple's adult sons, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. John Mendoza.

The 24-year-old son was detained as a "person of interest," Mendoza added.

Relatives of the victim have identified her as Maria Acevedo, 56.

She was a wife, mother and co-owner of Margarita's Mexican Grill on Valencia Boulevard.

"She's always kind, gentle, very motherly. This location right here is her baby," employee Dayanna Quintana told NBC4. "This to happen, all of the sudden. I even took it as a shock. She was supposed to be there!"

Detectives interviewed Acevedo's adult son along with other witnesses, family members and anybody else that may have information.
