A dog dug up a human skull at a quarry in the Mojave Desert near Barstow.
The dog's owner reported the find to San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies Monday, and investigators subsequently confirmed it was human.
The Sheriff's Department says it's not known how long the skull was in the desert near Soap Mine Road and Old State Highway 58.
No other bones were found.
Coroner's investigators will try to identify the skull.
