North SFV Freeway Closed After 1 Found Dead in Car Fire

One person was found dead in a car fire that ignited brush on a 118 Freeway embankment and closed the eastbound portion of the freeway in northern Los Angeles County Sunday morning, authorities said.

The vehicle was completely burned and its only occupant found dead when first-responders arrived to the location in Granada Hills, according to a California Highway Patrol representative.

Another vehicle was found crashed at the location, near Balboa Boulevard, CHP officials said. The crash was reported at about 3:15 a.m.

A SIG Alert issued by the CHP at 3:40 a.m. over the freeway closure hadn't been canceled as of 8:20 a.m., according to CHP logs.
