2 Seriously Injured in Crash Involving Car, Metro Gold Line Train in Pasadena

Two men were transported to a hospital with serious injuries after a crash involving a Toyota Corolla and a Metro Los Angeles train in Pasadena Sunday, the Pasadena Fire Department said.

Pasadena police closed California Boulevard between Raymond Avenue and Arroyo Parkway due to the collision that ocurred about 11:30 a.m. The street reopened at 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as 57-year-old Tzab Hermino of Pasadena, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, the Pasadena Police Department said.

According to police, Hermino allegedly drove under the railroad crossing and was hit by the train.

About two dozen people were aboard the train during the crash but no other injuries were reported, Pasadena Fire said.

Normal operations resumed on the Gold Line just before 2 p.m. after they were suspended between the Fillmore and Del Mar stations following the collision, according to Metro. Residual delays were expected through 2:30 p.m.

Metro engineers were on scene to asses the damage to the intersection arms and traffic light pole, the Pasadena Police Department said.
