Moreno Valley School Board Member Arrested in Nightclub Shooting

Moreno Valley Unified School District Board Member Mike Rios allegedly shot at two men in a car after a fight at a nightclub

A Moreno Valley School Board member is expected in court and his fate on the district’s panel could be decided on Tuesday after his arrest on charges of attempted murder.

Mike Luis Rios was arrested in connection with shooting at two men in a car after an early morning fight on Monday at a Moreno Valley nightclub, officials said.

Rios reported that a man shot at him.

Rios told deputies that he had been arguing with two men and that they had followed him home.

Once there, Rios said, he was confronted and shot at.

He said the men drove off in a compact car and disappeared.

A search of the area turned up no car nor the men.

When detectives later located the men their story contradicted Rios’ version.

It was Rios who shot at their car and evidence backed it up, detectives said.

Rios was re-interviewed and booked into jail on attempted murder charges and a misdemeanor charge of dissuading a witness.

His bail was set at $1 million.

Rios’s four-year term as board member began in 2010.

It was unknown Sunday whether he'll be allowed to finish his term as he faces charges.

His colleagues on the board could decide his status during a closed session school board meeting on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
