Shooting in Hyde Park Results in Two Fatalities

A shooting in Hyde Park on Tuesday left two dead and one injured. Adrian Arambulo reports from Hyde Park for NBC4 News at 6 p.m. on Aug. 27, 2013. (Published Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013)

Two men died and a third was wounded in a drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles on Tuesday, police said.

The apparently gang-related shooting happened about 4 p.m. Three men in their mid 20s were standing in the 2700 block of West 64th Street (map) when a vehicle drove by and shots were fired, said LAPD Capt. Tom McMullen.

Two of the men were pronounced dead at the scene. The third was hospitalized in critical condition.

McMullen said the description of the vehicle wasn't clear because of conflicting reports.

Few other details were immediately released - it remained unclear how many shots were fired and how many people may have fired them.

It was also unclear whether the victims were involved in gangs, McMullen said. The area where they were hanging out tends to have a lot of gang activity, he said.

"It's a heinous thing that occurred," McMullen said, adding that the victims were cut down "in the prime of their lives."
