Caltrans Worker Finds Body in Storm Drain Under 605 Freeways

It is unknown whether the body is that of a male or female.

A Caltrans worker found a body in a storm drain that splits the 605 Freeway early Thursday morning, California Highway Patrol said.

The body was found in the storm drain between the northbound and southbound carpool lanes of the 605 Freeway near Valley Boulevard in Lakewood. Authorities were notified just after 1:30 a.m.

A portion of the center divider had to be cut in order to recover the body (below.)

It is unknown whether the body is that of a male or female. It was found badly decomposed.

LA County Sheriff’s homicide detectives are at the scene investigating, but are currently treating it as a death investigation.

A SigAlert was issued for the carpool lanes on the northbound and southbound 605 Freeways between Carson Street and Centralia Street but had cleared by 6:30 a.m.
