Cyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash

Authorities are seeking a driver and a minivan involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicycle rider in Compton on Monday.

The fatal crash at Compton Boulevard and Dwight Avenue was reported at 8:04 a.m., sheriff's Sgt. Peter Ramirez said.

The bicyclist was riding north on Dwight Avenue and was struck by a silver or gray 1990s Ford passenger van, possible an Aerostar, that was traveling east on Compton Boulevard, Ramirez said.

The van was last seen going east on Compton Boulevard, he said.

The victim was treated by Compton firefighters but he died of his injuries, Ramirez said.

A coroner's investigator tonight said the deceased man was 35 to 40 years of age.

Sheriff's Lt. R. Enriquez encouraged anyone with information to call the Compton Station at (310) 605-6500.
