DMV Worker Arrested In Fake ID Scheme

The employee and two others face multiple felony counts for conspiracy, perjury and other offenses.

A DMV employee and two others face multiple felony counts for conspiracy, perjury and other offenses related to a fake ID scheme.

Police arrested Coretta Lasha Gray Beason-Samuel, 38, an employee at the Los Angeles field office and two other people, Danavian Travon Hughes, 35 and Adolfo Maria Cruz, 45.

Beason-Samuel conspired with Cruz to produce a fraudulent California Identification Card to an undercover officer, according to acting Department of Motor Vehicle internal affairs commander, Robyn Gomez.

Gomez says the Department of Justice and the DMV were working on individual cases with ties to Beason-Samuel and decided to merge the two investigations in December of 2010.

Beason-Samuel is also accused of making a fake California Driver License for her boyfriend, Hughes, who Gomez says, assumed the identity of someone out of state.

Beason-Samuel is being held on $150,000 bail, and Hughes and Criz are being held on $75,000 bail each.

In an unrelated case, another DMV employee, Patricia Rosario Casas faces charges she stole cash from customers for services at the Westminster DMV office.

"There is a built in flexibility in the system in order to serve the needs of the people of the state of California," Gomez said. "We trust our employees, but because of that need for flexibility, a corrupt individual could use it as an opportunity to skirt the system, like these two women did."
