Heavy Police Presence at East LA College Campus

A heavy police presence moved into East Los Angeles College Tuesday night.

Around 6:15 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department received two phone calls about a man running through the campus with a gun, authorities said.

Deputies arrived and searched the area, and after several sweeps said there was no gunman.

LASD said there was no lockdown on campus.

The school is located at 1301 Avenida Cesar Chavez in Monterey Park.

Students tweeted that there was a heavy police presence on campus around 7 p.m.

NewsChopper4 was overhead, showing patrol units parked in front of the school.

A student named Christian Absi called NBC4 saying classes were canceled Tuesday night.

Deputies were told to remain on high-visibility patrol.
