13-Year-Old Student Arrested After East Whittier School Threat

The school announced that there was no concern for students' safety.

A threat made on social media against Rancho Starbuck Intermediate School in East Whittier prompted the arrest of a 13-year-old student and an increase in the number of deputies on campus Thursday.

The threat was reported Wednesday evening and detectives identified and questioned two students in connection with the threat, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Norwalk Station.

One of the students was arrested late Wednesday night, the sheriff's department reported. His name was not released.

"We treat all threats as serious and investigate immediately," the Norwalk Station tweeted. "Joke or not."

A notice from Principal Linda Takacs was posted on the school's official Twitter on Wednesday informing the community that students were safe to come to school Thursday.

The department announced additional deputies would be at the school at 16430 Woodbrier Ave. today to help ease any fears.

Details of the threat were not disclosed.
