It was reported as a possible shooting. But when police arrived at a Woodland Hills home, they discovered it was a father's lesson gone wrong.
Authorities said a father was attempting to demonstrate for his son the dangers of gunpowder. He ignited a blast that blew off one of his fingers, injured the boy and damaged his home.
A bomb squad also visited the home in the 22900 block of Calvert Street. The blast was reported at about 10:45 p.m.
When police and firefighters arrived, the found a blown out window. The bomb squad checked for other items that might explode.
The man's son suffered minor face injuries and possible loss of hearing, a sergeant said. Father and son were taken to a hospital.
