Special Section: The Kelly Thomas Case
Officer Manuel Ramos and Cpl. Jay Cicinelli will be on unpaid administrative leave, effective Oct. 8, Acting Chief of Police Kevin Hamilton said in the statement issued Thursday. They were placed on paid administrative leave in the wake of the July 5 altercation with Kelly Thomas.
The two officers can respond to the proposal before Oct. 8.
Four other officers involved in the case will remain on paid administrative leave. They are not facing charges.
Thomas died five days after the confrontation.
Earlier Thursday, Ramos was released from jail after posting $1 million bond. Last week, he was charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. Cicinelli was charged with involuntary manslaughter and excessive use of force.
Both officers pleaded not guilty and face a Nov. 4 pre-trial hearing.
