A man and woman caught on surveillance video are working a lottery scam that investigators say always pops up when big jackpots lure hopeful lottery players.
"The victims are approached by a nice looking older lady who claims to have a lottery ticket worth $50,000 or so, they can't cash it because they're illegal. Offer to sell the ticket to the person for $5,000," said Detective David Smith, of the Riverside Police Department.
Surveillance cameras captured the scam artists inside a Goodwill Store talking to women.
According to reports, there have been four victims since late February, but apparently this scam is not unique to the Inland Empire.
"I've been contacted by other law enforcement agencies all over Southern California. The same scam going on in New York, Florida all over the country. Basically any state that has a lottery," says Detective Smith.
