The body of a 24-year-old mother was found in the trunk of her car in the Winnetka area Monday afternoon.
Authorities plan to announce an arrest in the case Tuesday at noon.
The discovery was made about 1:20 p.m. at Leadwell Street and Shirley Avenue, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section. The victim was identified by family and friends as Doris Salguero.
Relatives of the woman contacted police Sunday because they were concerned when she failed to return home from a company Christmas party on Saturday night.
The woman's body, which was under a coat, was eventually found by her brother, who was driving around the neighborhood and spotted her car parked on the side of a road. Police did not immediately say how the woman was killed, but said there were signs of trauma to the body.
"The car was unlocked and it had been ransacked," said LAPD Detective Andrew Purdy.
He said no motive was known.
