Up to 125 deputies, including the department's SWAT team, hunted for Dorner, who authorities say killed four people to avenge his firing from the LAPD.

The Sheriff's Department led a search in the San Bernardino Mountains that involved 10 other agencies. Resources included helicopters with heat-seeking technology, a Sno-Cat to ferry searchers during a storm, and armored vehicles.

Dorner was found dead in a burned cabin after a Feb. 12 gunbattle.

A Los Angeles police spokesman says that department's costs have not been determined.
