Small Quake Rattles Chino Hills

CHINO HILLS, Calif. -- A small earthquake shook a suburban area east of Los Angeles, but there have been no reports of damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 3.1 quake struck at about 6:40 Tuesday morning, centered near the town of Chino Hills, about 30 miles east of Los Angeles.

A San Bernardino sheriff's dispatcher says there are no reports of injuries or damage.

A 5.4-magnitude temblor struck the area in July, leaving homes in some nearby communities with fallen bricks, cracked walls and windows, warped door frames and broken water mains and gas lines.
